“I AM” is with me
For the last two weeks, I’ve been reflecting on how Moses had to overcome five excuses in order to fulfil God’s plan for his life. Last week I talked about Moses identity crisis, and how he felt that he did NOT qualify for God’s mission. (go to the website if you missed it to catch up)
This week’s blog is about Moses’ second excuse – which was based on FEAR.
He said to God “But what if they do not believe me and say ‘The Lord did not appear to you!’” (Exodus 4:1)
Moses had many fears, including a fear of man. I think we would all agree with the statistics that fear is the biggest obstacle which holds us all back in life.
Do you have any of these fears?
Fear of – the opinions of others, failure, poverty, ridicule, family, authority, losing your reputation; inadequacy; making a fool of yourself, criticism; I’m too old, I’m too young, I’m not educated enough; I’m afraid of public speaking; I’m not gifted enough; it’s the wrong timing; it might not be God’s will …. the list is not exhaustive …
Fear is from the enemy, and designed to destroy and derail us from everything good that God has called us to be and do.
The voice of fear will always tell us two things:
- Who we are NOT
- What we CANNOT do
Does that sound like the voice of a loving Father?
Fear is your enemy. It is crushing, debilitating and paralysing.
Paul tells us that we need to be aware of the enemy’s voice and strategies. Why? So we are not outwitted …
2 Corinthians 2:9 Do not be ignorant of the enemies schemes so that he cannot outwit you
Satan has no power over you except through your agreement.
That’s why you can be powerful in the face of fear, because you don’t have to agree.
You have a choice not to agree with fear, but stand against it and declare the truth.
The truth is you are called, chosen, anointed and appointed.
Do you want to know how God responded to Moses’ fear?
14 God said “Moses, this is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’”
How simple. How powerful.
In other words, God was saying: “Moses, I am backing you all the way, in everything you do.” (It’s my humble opinion that you can’t get anything more reassuring and empowering than that)
What can we learn from this story?
When fears block our pathway, we can choose to stand against it and declare “I AM is with me”.
God isn’t looking for perfection, He is looking for obedience. He wants someone on his team who is prepared to declare: “I AM has sent me”.
Some action steps:
1. Why don’t you take a minute to identify any fear which is standing in the pathway of your destiny…
2. Now refuse to come into agreement with it and command it to go.
3. Now declare this out loud:
“I AM is WITH me”!
“I AM is FOR me”!
“I AM has SENT me”!
You are welcome to leave a comment below. I would love to know what fear you have overcome.
