I’m not ready

I’ve been doing a series on the five excuses Moses gave God which he hoped would cause God to change his mind about sending Him back to Egypt. I’m so grateful for God’s word and the way it can speak into our own lives, all of Moses’ excuses I relate to, I don’t know about you! To catch up with the series, just go to the website.  This week is Moses’ fourth excuse …

Exodus 3:13 Moses said to God “But what if I say to them “The God of our Father’s has sent me to you, and they say ‘Tell us his name?’ then what will I say?”

The problem Moses had was that He didn’t feel he knew God well enough to do this assignment.

The fearful narrative in his head would have gone something like this ….

“God … are you serious? I can’t go back to Egypt … I haven’t got a clue who you really are, in fact, this is the very first time I’ve ever spoken to you – (and by the way, are you really in that burning bush?!) I don’t know You or Your ways – I certainly DO NOT FEEL READY for this assignment!

Sometimes our feelings of “I’m not ready” can be an excuse we use because we don’t want to get out of our comfort zones. Undertaking risk and trusting God is pretty challenging after all.

We can reason with ourselves, saying things like … “Father God, thank you for what you’ve called me to do, BUT  before I get started, I think I need to …

  • Learn more about You
  • Develop my relationship with You
  • Do another subject or course   …. get some more training  … have another qualification   … develop some more skills ….. go to another conference   …… grow in my gifts and anointing!!

Often, if we’re honest, these things can be excuses.

This was the very issue that Moses was struggling with – He did not feel ready!

PROCRASTINATION can become an art-form don’t you think?!

Here are some great quotes …

  • If you do not wish someone to do a thing, you had better get them to talk about it; for the more they talk, the more likely they are to do nothing else – Thomas Carlysle
  • No-one makes a greater mistake than those who do nothing, because they know it is not everything – Edmund Burke
  • Procrastination is the art of keeping up with yesterday – Don Marquis
  • Procrastination is opportunity’s assassin- Victor Kiam

We can procrastinate for many different reasons such as – we are fearful, lazy, unorganized, time-poor,  or wanting to be ‘perfect’ before we start …

Leaving aside an in-depth analysis of procrastination, I’d rather look at this verse:

Hebrews 11:32-34 “And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets, who through faith stepped out to conquer kingdoms, administer justice, and gain what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength, and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies.”

How did ALL the heroes of the faith gain victory?

Through FAITH as they STEPPED OUT.

They didn’t wait for their circumstances to be perfect or until they “felt ready” – they trusted God and stepped out.

And when they did, their “weakness was turned to strength” as they “conquered kingdom’s administered justice and gained what was promised”

It’s only when we ENTER THE BATTLE that we gain all we need. You don’t experience supernatural power by sitting on the side-lines.

That is the walk of FAITH. Just do it!

What has God called you to do?

What is stopping you from doing it?

If you are procrastinating (and usually we know when we are), then make a decision to STOP. It’s time to slay the giant of procrastination because it will hold you back from God’s best for your life. You are too important for that to happen!

In the end, Moses STEPPED OUT, and so can you – no excuses! As you do, you are going to see your “weakness turned to strength, shut the mouths of lions and become powerful in battle“.
