Joy and Laughter
This week I read a quote by theologian Karl Barth “Laughter is the closest thing to the grace of God”
It’s an amazing statement and it’s had me thinking quite a bit.
When I shared it with a friend, they said “as soon as I read it I saw Jesus standing at the throne laughing … in a way isn’t that what grace is – it’s paid, it’s covered …. grace upon grace”.
I absolutely agree! How theologically sound.
Psalm 2:4 says God sits enthroned in the heavens and He laughs. It’s a great picture to imagine isn’t it?
Jesus was someone who was FULL OF JOY!
Do you imagine him like that?
He would have radiated joy, fun and laughter!
John 15:11 “I have told you this so that MY JOY may be in you and that your joy may be complete”
John 16:24 “Ask and you will receive, that your JOY will be FULL”
Jesus makes it clear that being FULL OF JOY is not a luxury for the few, but for all of us.
He wants YOUR LIFE TO OVERFLOW WITH HIS JOY.
I grew up in a home with a very strong work ethic. Working hard is not wrong, but NOT at the cost of enJOYing life. I believe that whatever God calls us to do in life, He does not want it to drain us or cause us to be miserable. His purpose for us is going to give us GREAT JOY and fulfilment (even when there are challenges are involved).
Another favourite quote on the subject of joy is by Kris Vallotton. He says “If you’re not having fun in life, back up and find out what you’re doing wrong!”
So, a couple of thoughts to ponder …
Are you having ENOUGH FUN in life?
Do you need to have a fresh infilling of His JOY?
Joy is your birthright and your inheritance as a child of the King. Don’t be robbed of it!
Karl Barth’s revelation was “Laughter is the closest thing to the grace of God”. I’m not sure yet of the full extent of it’s meaning. However I am convinced that we would benefit from laughing a whole lot more!
Love and joy,
